:: The History ::

The Pinoy Harry Potter Club was formed on October 30, 2001. It was registered and listed in the Yahoo! Clubs on the same date. The founders are two of the finalists in the first “Harry Potter Trivia Game Challenge” primarily sponsored by National Bookstore and Powerbooks. One of the founders is Cherie M. del Rio – a student in De La Salle Lipa – College of Legal Management. The other founder is Ma. Inez Angela Z. Ponce de Leon – an instructor in the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, UP Diliman. After the aforementioned contest which ran from July to September of this year, the founders have become good friends bonded by the same interest, Harry Potter. Because of this, they thought that forming a haven for all Filipino fans would also be as beneficial as it was for them. One does not only have the chance to discuss the subject of Harry Potter, express themselves, do some sharing…one will also find a lasting friendship with all other members. Indeed, what they thought was true. As of now (May 2002) the organization has 145 members and is still growing.

:: Overview ::

The club provides a retreat for all Pinoy Harry Potter fans. Friendships are established. Any form of animosity or rudeness is never tolerated in the club. This group is formed to establish camaraderie among the Pinoy fans. What sets this group from any other is its “Hogwarts Style.” As you read on more later in this page, you’ll be able to find out just want “Pinoy Hogwarts” is. At present, it is internet-based. Discussions, forums, and dialogues are done in the Yahoo! Groups domain. Members and even non-members log on to Pinoy Harry Potter Yahoo Group to discuss their thoughts, feelings, ideas, as well as news updates, spoilers for future books, and any other topic regarding Harry Potter. It is a very interactive endeavor. At present, PHP has its own website - where everyone can view the goings-on in the club. With its growing recognition among the many Filipino Harry Potter fans, the club now wishes to give itself a more concrete nature.

:: Objective ::

This club primarily aims to build friendships, camaraderie, and some form of “magical alliance” among fellow Filipino Fans of the book series Harry Potter. A big number of Filipinos have become quite interested in the books. The Pinoy Harry Potter Club seeks to unite these fans to form a unity and bond held on together by one particular line of concentration, Harry Potter. Basically, it is a fan club with a purpose, with a cause. That it exists not only to have a group of fans as members, but also as contributors in the organization’s promotion of books as well as in encouraging the members to unleash their inner magic by sharing their talents. And of course, this organization is true to its name. This organization is all very Pinoy.

:: Activities ::

Part of the club’s objectives is the development of the members’ talents and skills as well as the promotion & sponsorship of Harry Potter™. In order to achieve this goal, the founders have lined up a number of activities that are to be accomplished both in and out of the internet. Pinoy Harry Potter Club offers the usual fun activities adapted from the four books in the series. We have the Sorting Activity, Getting Wands, Getting Magical Creatures, House Cup Competition, Quidditch Games, Earning Wizard Money, Transactions with the Gringott’s Bank, Spells of the Day, Daily Trivia, and the latest craze, the Harry Potter Survivor Challenge.
